Amid the frantic rush of the holiday season, amid all the travel and hosting and last-minute purchases and late-night wrapping sessions, amid exciting New Year’s plans (lol, not here) and the college football onslaught and your fantasy football playoffs, a funny thing happens: The college basketball season gets real.
The nonconference season is always a little weird; November and December are fun and important, but also kind of uneven. Now league play has begun in earnest, and the cadence of the campaign — weeknight viewing habits and big Saturdays full of marquee matchups, and an increased focus on the eventual shape of the NCAA Tournament field — accelerates with it. It’s a super enjoyable time of the year. After a little time off for the holidays, we can think of no better way to ring in the New Year than to do a big old mailbag rounding up the big stories and trends in the sport from the past few weeks, not to mention anything you guys want to discuss.
As is tradition, submit your mailbag questions in the comments.
(Note: To do so, you must be a subscriber, which we really think you should become, but then again we would say that, wouldn’t we? Hmm.)
We’ll put them together and return with answers and musings and tangents and all the rest later this week. Thanks as ever. Happy New Year, happy hooping, and see you below the line!
In light of your analysis of Cooley and Georgetown last year, what do you make of the current team and the trajectory of the program? What does it take for Georgetown to get an at-large bid?
Three questions... take your pick from any/all of them:
1) Favorite non-basketball non-coaching storylines entering the year? ie: Dickie V's return (?), FSU players suing Leonard Hamilton, etc.
2) Who gets more bids this year -- A10 or MW?
3) CBB writers you recommend we should follow and/or subscribe to leading up to March/April... excluding yourself, of course?
Thanks! Looking forward to more Bubble Watch starting soon.
